After Bankruptcy Hearing, 50 Cent Flashes More ‘Cash’

The Wall Street Journal; Hartford Courant

Rapper 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, recently appeared in court to address the court’s concerns with numerous social media posts showing the entertainer surrounded by piles of cash during the pendency of his bankruptcy case.

Jackson ultimately filed a statement with the court revealing that the cash in the photos was fake and part of the debtor’s routine social media marketing activities. Jackson’s lawyers have since reached deals with his major creditors, including SunTrust Bank, regarding repayment of their claims under a plan of reorganization.

Attorney Lynne Xerras explained to the court why appointment of an examiner was not necessary, stating that while the postings were troublesome, it became clear that Mr. Jackson’s social media posts are important to his business

"His value depends on his image," she said.
