BigLaw, Boutiques To Stay Busy With Native American Work

When it comes to Indian law and related practice areas, attorney James Meggesto discusses with Law360 the benefits of working at large firm such as Holland & Knight.

"I know I can pick up a phone and have a team of lawyers working on it," Mr. Meggesto said. Larger firms tend to handle a tribe's multimillion-dollar projects in the casino or energy industries, and he says, smaller boutique law firms often handle the everyday affairs.

“When tribes don't have a robust in-house counsel system, boutiques fill that space at a different rate structure able to provide general counsel,” he said. “It's not economical for a big firm like ours to provide the day-to-day legal work.”
