NEW YORK (December 22, 2014) – Holland & Knight served as counsel to Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior, S.A. (Bladex) as administrative agent, sole lead arranger and bookrunner of a nine-bank syndicate on a $125 million syndicated loan to Banco de Costa Rica.

Bladex, a supranational bank established by the central banks of Latin American and Caribbean countries, was joined in the transaction by CorpBanca (New York), Bancolombia S.A., First Citizens Bank Limited, Global Bank Corporation, Banco de Bogota (Panama), S.A., Banco de Bogota (Nassau) Limited, Banco Lafise Panama, S.A. and Israel Discount Bank of New York. The transaction closed on December 19.

Bladex and the lenders were represented by Holland & Knight partner Stephen Double and associate Carlos Meza in New York. Vicente Lines and Donato Rivas Garro of Arias & Muñoz advised Bladex and the lenders as to Costa Rican law on the transaction. Raul Herrera of Arnold & Porter advised Banco de Costa Rica.

“This transaction is another great example of the strong presence of Bladex in the syndicated loan business in Central America. The fact that everyone was able to complete such an important deal in less than a month speaks volumes about the efficiency and professionalism of the entire deal team,” noted Mr. Double.
