Shumaker Atty Targeted In DUI Setup Sheds Malpractice Suit

A Florida jury ruled against a radio DJ and his wife in a lawsuit brought against their attorney and his law firm in a lost defamation trial against a rival radio DJ. The attorney, represented by Holland & Knight attorney Joseph Varner, was cleared on claims of negligence and breach of fiduciary duty, and he and his firm were awarded $669,000 by the jury. 

“This was a case about sore losers, nothing more, nothing less, and if they had won the trial they wouldn’t have made any of these claims,” Mr. Varner said. “They desperately wanted to avoid paying their bill, so they made up a number of complaints, and the jury saw right through it.”
