The New Landscape of Lobbying

The Washington Post

The Washington Post highlighted some of the lobby firms that are shaking things up with new ways to do business in an evolving industry. The newspaper featured Holland & Knight for being the first lobbying group within a national law firm to stop requiring lobbyists to track their hours. Public Policy and Regulation Practice Group Leader Rich Gold said this change immediately transformed the way lobbyists work.

“Tracking time changes the way you serve clients,” Mr. Gold said. “When you’re always focused on how to allocate that 0.1 or 0.2 amount of time, you’re not as in the moment. By getting rid of the function of having to track your time and enter it everyday into a computer system, you’re more freed up to focus on ‘What do I need to do to advance the game for this client today?’ as opposed to focusing on the administrative task.”
