Entertainment Law

  • Our Entertainment Law Team has wide-ranging experience representing the full range of entertainment clients, from film studios and recording companies to individual actors, recording artists and performers.
  • We have a special interest in – and deep experience with – film production, representing independent film producers, directors and actors who seek legal advice about their contracts and agreements.
  • We thrive at the intersection of entertainment and community involvement, where creative endeavors can facilitate positive social change. Our documentary film work, especially that with the Chicago Urban League, is a highlight of our practice.

Working Where You Work

Our practice, which is international in scope, reflects the diverse activities of our many clients. From our Miami office, we represent internationally acclaimed and Grammy® Award-winning recording artists and producers, several of the recording industry’s "major" record companies, award-winning songwriters, independent record companies, music publishers and Latin American clients.

In Chicago, our team represents producers of documentary and feature films for network and cable broadcast, as well as for theatrical distribution – and we provide assistance with advertising and sweepstakes issues. In Los Angeles, we represent actors, writers, studios and other entertainment industry professionals, as well as foundations that create and support digital media. In Boston and New York, our clients include publishers and content owners, and we prepare financing vehicles in support of entertainment projects.

Our Washington, D.C. office supports all our other offices in providing advice on regulatory, First Amendment and Federal Communications Commission issues. Because of Holland & Knight’s “one firm” structure and approach, our entertainment attorneys routinely work together on client matters – no matter where they may be located.

Experienced Lawyers on Your Side

Members of our team have been selected for inclusion in leading industry publications based on their work in entertainment law. A number of our attorneys are ranked in the 2011 editions of Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers.

Serving the Entertainment Community

In keeping with Holland & Knight's tradition of community involvement, our entertainment attorneys take leadership roles in professional, educational and charitable organizations that support entertainment and the creative arts. Our lawyers teach law school courses in film and television law, write articles and organize seminars on media and entertainment law, serve on local and bar association committees supporting media and entertainment law, serve as members of local chapters of the National and Latin Academies of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS and LARAS) and actively participate in leadership roles in the local activities of both of these national organizations. We are also active in promoting the development of film and television business in each of the geographic areas where our offices are located.
