Groundbreaking Arbitration Rules Focus On Ethics

The London Court of International Arbitration has joined other major international arbitration institutions in modernizing its rules, which will go into effect Oct. 1.

This is the LCIA's first major revision since 1998. While many changes are modest and consistent with modern practice, a couple are groundbreaking in establishing uniform standards for attorney conduct. In 2013 the International Bar Association adopted the IBA Guidelines on Party Representation in International Arbitration, but the LCIA is the first major international arbitral institution to incorporate specific standards of ethics in the rules governing arbitrations.
