Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The regulation of greenhouse gases will have profound and wide-reaching effects on the United States and the global economy. The issue of carbon dioxide emissions has moved to the center of the congressional agenda. At the same time, national, state and regional agencies are rapidly crafting regulations resulting in a series of climate change-related statutory mandates.

Holland & Knight is well positioned to navigate through this complicated and fast-moving arena. Members of our Environmental Team routinely assist clients in evaluating potential risks and rewards associated with climate policies, whether or not they are subject to these regulations. From the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative to U.S. federal initiatives to the Kyoto Protocol, we have a thorough understanding of existing and emerging climate change policies.

From coast to coast, our Environmental Team is active helping to develop and shape climate and green technology policies on a national, state and local level. We have extensive experience in lobbying, rulemaking, compliance and enforcement issues and maintain close working relationships with key decision-makers in the legislative and executive branches of federal and state governments. Our team monitors proposed cap and trade legislation, as well as regulatory initiatives involving GHG emissions reporting, permitting requirements for "major sources" of GHG emissions, auctions and allowances, and offset trading issues.
