Federal Funding for Hurricane-Ravaged Seafood Industry Clients

Holland & Knight represented one of the leading trade associations for the seafood industry, working closely with Gulf Coast members and senators to include almost $150 million in the emergency supplemental appropriations bill for the hurricane-ravaged Gulf fishing industry. Among the monies secured, $20 million will be used to survey and clear fishing grounds of debris and $90 million for oyster bed and shrimp ground reseeding and fisheries rehabilitation. As most fishermen are ineligible for energy loans from the Small Business Administration, the funding the firm helped secure was critical to helping rebuild the battered seafood industry and local economies of the Gulf.
