Client Rebuffs Fraudulent Transaction
Holland & Knight prevailed on behalf of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in a major contract dispute. The plaintiff alleged that the client had breached an agreement to invest $10 million in what turned out to be a fraudulent transaction. Holland & Knight obtained dismissal of the plaintiff's action at the trial court and on appeal based upon the foreign sovereign immunities doctrine, and successfully opposed the plaintiff's petition for certiorari at the U.S. Supreme Court.
