OIG Issues Letter Regarding Subsidies to Physicians for Malpractice Insurance

In response to an inquiry, the OIG issued a letter from
Lewis Morris, Chief Counsel to the Inspector General, on January 15, 2003,
addressing the appropriateness of providing temporary assistance to physicians
on hospital medical staffs concerning professional liability insurance. Such
assistance would arguably forestall disruption in the provision of medical
services, specifically in the following states where the inquiring entity held
interests: Florida, Nevada, Texas and West Virginia. To read the whole letter
