Holland & Knight  Assists Client in Acquisition of MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, Illinois

CHICAGO – A team of Holland & Knight attorneys, led by Chicago Partner Anne Murphy, today completed a transaction in which client MSMC Investors LLC acquired St. Francis Hospital and Health Center from SSM Health Care. The historic 410-bed hospital, founded in 1905, was slated for closure after earlier efforts to find a buyer were unsuccessful. The acquisition was successfully completed on an unusually aggressive timetable. The hospital is the largest employer in Blue Island, and is known for its high quality service and excellence in cardiac care.

House Judiciary Committee Announces Retention of Holland & Knight's Alan Baron to Lead Inquiry into Possible Impeachment of Judge G. Thomas Porteous

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Alan I. Baron, co-chair of Holland & Knight's Congressional Investigations Team, was named by House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr., to serve as Special Counsel in the impeachment inquiry into the conduct of U.S. District Court Judge G. Thomas Porteous.

Grants to Encourage Exports from Small and Medium Firms

The U.S. Commerce Department will provide $2.3 million in awards to seven non-profit trade organizations under the Commerce Department's Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP), a public-private partnership developed to help small- and medium-sized U.S. firms expand exports that support jobs for Americans. The seven awards, which total $2.3 million, will go to the following non-profit organizations:

  • The Montana World Trade Center at The University of Montana, Missoula, MT
  • Alameda Center for Environmental Technology, Alameda, CA
  • World Trade Center Association, Los Angeles-Long Beach, Long Beach, CA
  • National Association of Credit Management, Inc., Columbia, MD
  • Intelligent Transportation Society of America, Washington, D.C.
  • Evergreen Building Products Association, Tacoma, WA
  • Association for Manufacturing Technology, McLean, VA

These organizations will dedicate an additional $5.3 million for export promotion to the $2.3 million in awards by the Commerce Department.
