The European Union Pushes for 50% Increase in Doha Development Fund
January 9, 2002
The European Union (EU) is pushing for a 50% increase in the target amount
for the Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund which is intended to help
developing countries with trade-related technical assistance. This increase
would bring the fund up from its current target of 10 million euros to 15
million euros. The EU sees this effort as an essential step in winning the
support of developing countries for the Doha Round and in improving their
capacity to negotiate effectively during the Round and has itself pledged to
make a substantial contribution to the Trust Fund.
