100% ad valorem Duty Imposed on Ukrainian Products
January 9, 2002
The United States Trade Representative (USTR) has imposed prohibitive tariffs on approximately $75 million worth of metals, footwear and other imports from Ukraine because of its failure to enact legislation to crack down on sound recording and optical media piracy. Effective January 23, 2002, a 100-percent-ad-valorem rate of duty is imposed on a list of Ukrainian products that are entered, or withdrawn from warehouse, for consumption. In addition, any merchandise subject to this determination that is admitted to U.S. foreign-trade zones on or after January 23, 2002, must be admitted as "privileged foreign status."
