Bush Nominates New Deputy Secretary to the USTR
April 22, 2003
The administration announced that President Bush nominated Josette Shriner to replace Jon Huntsman in the position of Deputy Secretary U.S. Trade Representative. Shriner, who currently serves as the Associate U.S. Trade Representative for Policy and Communications, is known for her former role as managing editor of the Washington Times, a conservative daily newspaper. In a statement made by Ambassador Zoellick, the USTR said that for the past two years Shriner “has played a key role in helping us regain American trade leadership by launching global trade negotiations in Doha, securing trade promotion authority and advancing U.S. free trade agreements.” Huntsman, who has served as Deputy Secretary since August 2001, will return to the private sector to work with his family’s business, Huntsman Family Holdings Corporation, the world’s largest privately owned chemical company.
