Cape Town Convention Update
In the June 2009 issue of Centerline, John Pritchard’s article, “European Community Accedes to the Cape Town Convention,” discussed the European Community’s ratification of the Cape Town Convention (Convention) and the Aircraft Protocol to the Cape Town Convention (Aircraft Protocol). To clarify one point in the article, a country’s ratification of the Convention is separate from its ratification of the Aircraft Protocol. To date, 31 countries and the European Community have deposited ratifications and declarations to the Cape Town Convention. Of these, 28 countries and the European Community have deposited ratifications and declarations to the Aircraft Protocol. The three countries that have ratified the Convention but not the Aircraft Protocol are Kazakhstan, the Syrian Arab Republic and Zimbabwe. We will continue to provide updates with respect to additional country ratifications of the Convention and Protocol and other developments in future issues of Centerline.
