Understanding the Government's Animal Instincts

Los Angeles Daily Journal/San Francisco Daily Journal

October 1, 2008

Elizabeth Lake - San Francisco

The Department of the Interior recently proposed to revise the Section 7 consultation process under the federal Endangered Species Act at a September 24, 2008, Senate Environment and Public Works Committee hearing. The proposed rule issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service on August 15, 2008, would amend the regulations implementing Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act, which requires federal agencies to consult with the services before they undertake or approve an action that may affect a listed species.
