Washington, D.C. – March 16, 2011 – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that William Gould has joined the firm's Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia Offices as partner in the Litigation Section and Patrick O'Brien has joined the Washington, D.C. and San Francisco offices as partner in the Business Section.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Gould and O'Brien were co-founders of O'Brien Gould PLCC, a boutique litigation and compliance practice focused on the health care sector where they defended companies and individuals. Their practice ranges from representing some of the world's biggest companies to defending people and small businesses under investigation by the government. Mr. Gould and Mr. O'Brien bring together a combination of investigative, trial, regulatory, and medical experience that allows them to aggressively defend even the most complicated matter.

John Hogan, the head of the firm’s Litigation Section, said that "The Holland & Knight team is excited and significantly strengthened by the addition of Patrick and Bill. They will make an immediate positive impact on our capabilities when dealing with DOJ, FDA, and OIG. We are excited to welcome them to our dynamic practice."

John Brownlee, head of the firm's national White Collar Defense and Investigations Team, said that "I have known and worked with Bill and Patrick for many years. The addition of their skills and experience to our team adds considerably to our abilities in the courtroom and before the many federal agencies that investigate our corporate and individual clients. We are fortunate to have them join our team."

Mr. Gould was an Assistant United States Attorney with the Justice Department for over ten years. He served in Washington, D.C. and the Western District of Virginia. During his public service and in private practice he has investigated and tried a range of criminal and civil cases in both federal and state courts. For twelve years, Mr. Gould taught law at the University of Virginia School of Law as an Adjunct Professor, and he was a law clerk for federal District Judge Morton A. Brody. He will focus his work as a member of the White Collar Defense Team.

Mr. O’Brien previously served ten years in Johnson and Johnson's Law Department, rising to Vice President of Law for the company's biotechnology commercial operating company, Centocor Ortho Biotech. Before that, he was a lawyer with the FDA and a litigator in private practice. Before law school, Mr. O'Brien was an emergency paramedic and a licensed pharmacist. At Holland & Knight, O'Brien will concentrate his practice on Healthcare & Life Sciences and Compliance matters.
