Holland & Knight Named America’s Leading Law Firm in Shipping and Maritime

September 2, 2004

NEW YORK – Legal Media Group has named Holland & Knight America's leading law firm in shipping and maritime law. According to independent research carried out by the Legal Media Group (LMG), Holland & Knight has more independently verified shipping legal experts than any other American firm.

The firm’s New York partners Nancy Hengen, William Honan, Chester Hooper, and Lennard Rambusch all passed the strict threshold of nominations for inclusion in LMG’s Guide to the World''s Leading Shipping & Maritime Lawyers 2004, 5th Edition.

“We appreciate and welcome our industry's recognition that we work hard every day to provide excellent value and superior results,” said Bill Honan, Practice Group Leader of the firm’s maritime team. “We have a new generation of maritime lawyers that should surpass those of us who were recognized this week by the Legal Media Group.”

In researching their guide, Legal Media Group carried out an in-depth study of experts in the field of shipping and maritime law. The initial stage of the research process involved distributing 2500 questionnaires to senior practitioners and in-house counsel involved in the practice area in 65 jurisdictions. The questionnaires asked leading figures to nominate those practitioners they considered to be among the most capable for shipping and maritime work. The results were analyzed and screened for firm, network and alliance bias.

As a final verification, the list was discussed with a select group of advisers from leading legal centers worldwide, including: Vancouver, Copenhagen, Paris, Hamburg, Piraeus, Oslo, Seoul, Singapore, London, New York, Stockholm, Toronto, Sydney, San Francisco, Montreal, Athens and Hong Kong.

Holland & Knight’s maritime lawyers represent clients in such areas as casualty, arbitration, marine pollution, secured transactions, purchase and sale, financing, government regulation, tax and capital markets.
