September 7, 2006
A survey of more than 250 firms shows Holland & Knight was the second most hired law firm in the United States for copyright litigation filed in federal court last year.
According to a survey conducted by IP Law 360, a publication of Portfolio Media, Inc., Holland & Knight is the second most hired law firm in copyright litigation filed in federal court last year. Holland & Knight also ranks in the top 10 for the number of trademark litigation cases filed.
The 284 largest law firms in the United States were surveyed, with rankings based on the number of new lawsuits filed between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2006, as reflected by U.S. District Court and Circuit Court dockets. Each case is weighted equally, regardless of the award sought or the number of attorneys involved, and reflects the ability of a firm to retain new clients. In the case of copyright litigation, music piracy litigation was not included in the survey.
According to the publication, copyright litigation accounts for 7% of Holland & Knight''s new caseload – well above the national average for top firms, which is about 2%. Mentioning EMI April Music Inc. and the Microsoft Corporation among Holland & Knight''s clients, the publication states, "The firm has in particular targeted clients that require larger, general-practice firms for their ''multidisciplinary'' legal needs."
