Holland & Knight Partner, Steve Nesmith to Speak at Follow-Up Session of the G20 in London

Washington, D.C.Steve Nesmith, partner in Holland & Knight's Washington, D.C. office, was invited to speak at a follow-up session of the G20 in London on April 10, 2009. Nesmith will discuss the U.S. and European proposed regulation of the financial services markets - post the mortgage securitization crisis.

The follow-up session will focus on the U.S. Treasury Department's proposed regulations and Europe's proposed creation of a new Financial Stability Forum as a super-regulator and the impact the two systems will have on financial institutions that operate in both the U.S. and European markets. Tidjane Thiam, incoming CEO of Prudential Financial Services plc. UK invited Nesmith as a result of his work in the financial recovery arena. The two met each other when Nesmith represented the West African country of the Ivory Coast and Mr. Thiam was a Minister in the Government. Mr. Thiam will make history this fall when he formally becomes the first African head of a FTSE 100 company in Europe.

Nesmith is a partner in the firm's Public Policy & Regulation Group. He served as Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He was a Sub–Cabinet member and principal advisor to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary and senior staff on legislative affairs, regulatory issues and policy matters affecting Federal, state and local governments, and public and private industry groups. As a senior Administration Official, he also served as a member of the President’s Leadership Team.
