September 1, 2004

Stuart Mendelsohn - Northern Virginia

MCLEAN, VA – Holland & Knight announced today the recent addition of a group of four real estate and land use attorneys to the Mid-Atlantic region’s land use practice. The group includes former Fairfax County Board of Supervisors member Stuart Mendelsohn, who joined as a partner in May, partner Edward Donohue, and senior counsel Terence Cooke and Tom Carroll.  Holland & Knight's Real Estate practice is the largest of any law firm in the country.  It also has the only land use practice that covers all of the jurisdictions in the region including Washington, D.C. and suburban Maryland and Virginia with over 20 land use attorneys.

“The addition of this group reflects the firm’s commitment to provide our clients with the  resources to compete in an increasingly complex real estate industry,” said Whayne S. Quin, Land Use Practice Group Leader of the firm’s Mid-Atlantic offices. “It also demonstrates the firm’s business strategy to grow our commercial real estate practice in the Mid-Atlantic region.”

Mendelsohn practices in the areas of real estate, land use, litigation, government affairs and corporate law.  His clients include a broad range of corporations, non-profit organizations, builders and developers.  He received both his B.S. and M.S. from the Florida Institute of Technology and his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law.

Donohue specializes in zoning, land use and historic preservation matters as applied to telecommunications facilities throughout the region.  He earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Connecticut State University and his J.D. from the Washington College of Law, American University.

Terence Cooke practices in the areas of commercial transactions and negotiations, telecommunications, real estate and land use.  He earned his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law.  Thomas Carroll will focus his work in telecommunications-related zoning matters and land use.  He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

Mendelsohn and Cooke will be located in the firm’s Tysons Corner, Virginia offices.  Donohue and Carroll will work from the 2099 Pennsylvania Avenue offices in Washington DC.
