Stephen L. Taber Joins Holland & Knight in San Francisco

Firm to expand West Coast bond practice and strengthen long-term care financing capabilities nationally

SAN FRANCISCO – Holland & Knight LLP today announced that Stephen L. Taber has joined the firm as a Partner in the San Francisco office. Taber, a bond lawyer, comes to the firm with approximately 28 years of experience specializing in public agencies, nonprofit organizations, housing developments and health care facilities, including long-term care facilities.

“Steve’s extensive experience in the public finance transactions in both the public and nonprofit arenas will certainly strengthen Holland & Knight’s bond financing presence on the West Coast,” says Parkhill Mays, Public Finance Practice Group Leader for Holland & Knight. “ We also hope to leverage his experience to expand our long-term care financing capabilities throughout the United States.”

Taber has served as general counsel to numerous nonprofit corporations including cultural organizations, hospitals, retirement housing providers and social services organizations. He has also served as underwriter’s counsel and bond counsel in both tax-exempt and taxable borrowing transactions. Offerings have included publicly offered bond issues, stand-alone credit, credit enhanced under the California Health Facility Loan Insurance Program, and state, city redevelopment agency, housing authority and CRA financings.

Taber joins Holland & Knight from Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos & Rudy. Prior to the practicing of law, Taber served for five years as Senior Consultant to the California Senate Committee on local government. He also served as Special Consultant to the California Business Transportation Agency.

Taber is a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco and the National Association of Bond Lawyers. He has served on the board of directors of many nonprofit organizations and in such capacity, has been responsible for development of major capital improvement initiatives and facilities.

Taber received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1969. He received his Master of Public Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1971 and his Juris Doctorate from University of the Pacific, McGregor School of Law in 1974.
