Holland & Knight Attorney Christopher M. Ruhlen Earns LEED® Accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council

May 12, 2009

Bethesda, MD – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Christopher M. Ruhlen, an associate in the firm's Bethesda office, has earned accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council and is now a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP), effective May 4, 2009.

He is the seventh Holland & Knight attorney to earn LEED accreditation and the first in the Bethesda, Maryland, office.

Ruhlen is now capable of advising and assisting Holland & Knight clients on the LEED certification process, which is designed to enable the implementation and achievement of the highest green building and environmental performance measures. He will be listed on the Green Building Certification Institute's LEED AP Directory under the "Legal" area of practice where there are less than 100 attorneys nationwide who are certified LEED APs.

LEED APs have the professional knowledge and ability to help facilitate the LEED certification process for green and sustainable building. The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED APs complete a rigorous certification process that includes a final exam.

Ruhlen is an associate with the Land Use and Government Practice Group of Holland & Knight. His practice focuses on land use, zoning and municipal law. He received his B.A. magna cum laude in Anthropology from American University and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
