However, in the most recent legislative session, the Florida Legislature enacted revisions to Florida Statute ยง 713.10 that provide a potential pitfall for lessors by inserting a provision that may allow a contractor to lien the lessor's interest even where there is a recorded document advising of the limitation of liens.

Milford B. Hatcher, Jr. Joins Holland & Knight's Private Wealth Services Practice in Jacksonville and Atlanta

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – January 4, 2010 – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Milford “Mil” Hatcher, Jr. has joined the firm's Jacksonville and Atlanta offices as a partner in the firm's Private Wealth Services practice.

Hatcher will concentrate his practice in estate planning, business succession and income tax planning for high-net-worth clients. He has unique experience in regards to preferred partnerships, especially in a family context, and has extensive experience with family limited partnerships, valuation and estate freezes. Hatcher will also advise clients in all areas of U.S. tax law, including corporate, partnership and transfer tax.

"Particularly as we look to likely changes in the tax law affecting estate planning, Mil's expertise in the preferred partnership area will create a number of options for us and our clients nationally. He and I have worked together in professional organizations for some time, and I am excited about the opportunity to have him join Holland & Knight, where our more than 80 private wealth services lawyers can draw upon his expertise in serving our clients," said Edward Koren, partner and practice group leader for the firm's Private Wealth Services practice. “Mil's extensive private wealth and tax experience will strengthen the capabilities we offer to our clients and prospective clients, not only in our Jacksonville and Atlanta offices, but nationally.”

Previously, Hatcher was a partner at Jones Day. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and currently holds a number of positions with ACTEC, including being a member of the Board of Regents and Executive Committee, chair of the Estate and Gift Tax Committee and Georgia State chair. He previously served as lead counsel for ACTEC in regards to amicus briefs filed in two of the most high-profile family limited partnership cases, Kimbell and Strangi, both decided by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of both the Florida and Georgia bar associations, is a past chair of the Tax Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and is a member of the American Bar Association's Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section and Tax Section.

Hatcher has extensive roots in Jacksonville. He began his legal career in Jacksonville with Culverhouse, Tomlinson, Mills, DeCarion and Anderson. His late grandfather, Charles Campbell, was instrumental in bringing Prudential to Jacksonville and later served as chair of the Florida Development Commission.
