The U.S. Supreme Court recently denied an employer’s request for review of a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, which held that tipped employees spending more than 20 percent of their time performing related but non-tipped duties must be paid the full minimum wage for that time, without the tip credit.

Veronica Perez Joins Holland & Knight's Public Policy and Regulation Practice in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, Calif. – February 1, 2010 – Holland & Knight announced today that Veronica Perez has joined the firm's Los Angeles office as partner in the Public Policy and Regulations (PP&R) practice group.

Perez will concentrate her practice in the government section and will work on a wide range of lobbying and legal issues, including land use, legislative and government counsel, public contracting and redevelopment issues.

“Veronica brings Holland & Knight invaluable experience in the government sector and public policy,” said Rich Gold, head of the firm's PP&R practice group. “She has a first-rate track record with both government decision makers and private sector leaders, which will help strengthen our firm's capabilities and expand the services that we offer our clients.”

“We're thrilled to have Veronica bring her civic leadership, public advocacy, and legal expertise to our transactional and land use clients,” added Jennifer Hernandez, co-chair of Holland & Knight's national Environment team and chair of the firm's West Coast Land Use and Environmental Law Team.

Prior to joining the firm, Perez was Vice President of Legislative and Legal Affairs for the Central City Association where she oversaw key legal matters affecting the organization and balanced policy, legal and political concerns with the organization's agenda. Perez also served as Managing City Attorney of the American Dream Program in the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, and associate for the DLA Piper and Dewey Ballantine, LLP Litigation practices.

Perez is a Board Member of Students Run L.A., a non-profit training program for at-risk LAUSD students to run the Los Angeles Marathon. She has also has been named a “Rising Star” by Los Angeles Magazine and Law and Politics.

Perez received her B.A. in English from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and earned her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.
