Jason Klitenic, Former Official of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of Justice, Joins Holland & Knight

Washington, D.C. – March 16, 2010 – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Jason Klitenic, the former Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Deputy Associate Attorney General of the U.S. Department of Justice, has joined the firm's Washington, D.C. office as a partner in the firm's Government Contracts – Enforcement Defense practice. He will represent clients in a variety of government enforcement, regulatory and public policy matters, including investigations and procurement initiatives in the homeland security marketplace.

From 2003 through 2005, Klitenic served as the first Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he oversaw the operations of the 1,500-lawyer DHS Office of General Counsel. During his tenure, Klitenic was appointed Acting General Counsel of DHS and became the chief legal officer of the 180,000-employee agency. Prior to his DHS service, Klitenic was Deputy Associate Attorney General of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he was responsible for overseeing various litigation arising throughout DOJ, including cases involving government procurement, Civil False Claims Act enforcement, environmental regulation, antitrust violations, terrorism, corporate fraud and immigration offenses.

Klitenic's practice will focus on representing client interests before the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security, as well as DHS's 22 component agencies, including TSA, Customs and Border Protection, FEMA, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Coast Guard. Klitenic has represented clients in a wide variety of homeland security enforcement, regulatory and public policy matters, including immigration enforcement proceedings, export control investigations, government contract disputes, cyber security projects, critical infrastructure protection programs and DHS procurement efforts.

Klitenic is Vice Chair of the American Bar Association's Committee on Homeland Security and National Defense. He received his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University, where he was an NCAA all-America baseball player, and J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
