Holland & Knight Expands National Intellectual Property Practice With Addition of Patent Attorney Group in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Holland & Knight LLP has significantly strengthened its national Intellectual Property Practice Group with the addition of a prestigious group of patent litigators and prosecutors in the firm's Washington, D.C. office.

The group – Dr. Sunwoo Lee, Jon B. Crocker, Victoria Hao, Dr. Baldine B. Paul and Patent Agent Donald L. Monin, Jr. – will provide increased depth, knowledge and experience to the firm's IP practice through their high-end patent litigation and prosecution practice and knowledge that covers a diverse range of technology industries. Previously, they were with the Washington, D.C. office of Seyfarth Shaw.

"These additions greatly enhance our patent litigation capabilities in Washington, D.C. and nationally. Dr. Lee and his group allow us to continue to provide our existing clients with the level of service and IP experience they expect from Holland & Knight, and to reach out to new clients throughout the U.S. and internationally."

Dr. Sunwoo Lee joins Holland & Knight as a partner and will head the patent practice in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. His practice includes patent litigation, counseling, patentability and non-infringement opinions, licensing and agreements, and due diligence. Lee has an extensive background in and technical knowledge in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and materials science, including semiconductor, display, multimedia, telecommunication and automobile technologies. He counsels domestic and foreign clients from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies in all areas of intellectual property law. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and received his Ph.D. in Solid State Science and Technology.

Jon B. Crocker joins the firm as a Senior Counsel, concentrating his practice on representing Fortune 100 companies in intellectual property litigation. He has federal litigation experience in military courts – martial, administrative agencies and boards – and various district courts throughout the U.S. Previously, Crocker served as a criminal prosecutor, international and operational law attorney and chief of civil litigation in the United States Army, Judge Advocate General's Corps.

Victoria Hao joins the firm as an associate. She focuses her practice on intellectual property matters with an emphasis on IP portfolio management, IP-related litigation, patent prosecution and trade secret issues. Hao was a patent examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Dr. Baldine B. Paul joins the firm as an associate. He advises clients on transactional and litigation matters related to patents in a wide range of technologies, including Digital Television standards, MPEG video coding, multimedia communications over the Internet and machine vision technologies for semiconductor wafer detection, positioning and alignment, among others. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.

Donald L. Monin, Jr. joins the firm as a patent agent. He prosecutes and drafts patent applications in solid state device related technologies and systems related to the use of solid state devices. Monin was a patent examiner in the United States Patent and Trademark Office for more than a decade.
