Indian Law Practice Group Assists Tribes in Litigation
Holland & Knight's Indian Law practice group successfully defended a local municipal agency in its sale of surplus land to an Indian tribe. The suit was pursued by a local organization that was against the sale and had argued, among other things, that the buyer's status as a tribal government and its potential to seek federalization of the land triggered environmental processes that weren't followed. In collaboration with the Environmental Law group, the tribe's team won the matter on summary judgment and then on appeal.
