Construction: Alert - January 30, 2012

For almost 50 years, lessors have had the ability to limit their liability for liens that arose from improvements to the leasehold made by a lessee. However, in the most recent legislative session, the Florida Legislature enacted revisions to Florida Statute § 713.10 that provide a potential pitfall for lessors by inserting a provision that may allow a contractor to lien the lessor's interest even where there is a recorded document advising of the limitation of liens.

Holland & Knight Announces Creation of Private Wealth Services Section

July 15, 2003

Edward "Ed" Koren- Tampa

The inaugural edition of this newsletter is our opportunity to announce the formation of the Private Wealth Services Section of Holland & Knight. Previously, we were the Trusts and Estates Group, and a part of the Business Law Department. The reason for this change is to better serve our individual clients. For instance, if you live in the northeast and winter in Florida, we want you to know that our lawyers work as a team and will provide you quality services for your business and personal matters. Whether you are moving between New England, New York, Illinois, the West Coast or Washington, D.C., and retirement areas such as California and Florida, we can still be your lawyers and law firm.

The creation of this new Section, and other practice management changes within the firm are designed to shift us from a geographic structure to one that emphasizes the particular practice specialties of the Firm. Under this new approach, the Private Wealth Services Section will be one of five firmwide Sections, reflecting the emphasis that the Firm is placing upon our individual clients.

The result of this reorganization is to further strengthen what was already the largest group of lawyers in the country who are focused upon the legal needs of individuals. In addition to estate and tax planning and trust and estate administration, lawyers in the new Private Wealth Services Section represent clients in trusts and estates litigation, business succession planning, charitable and tax-exempt organizations, and elder law matters. We believe that we will better carry out our commitment to provide our individual clients with the finest representation available.

We are excited by the Firm’s new affirmation of its commitment to this area of the practice and the legal needs of individuals and their families. We invite your comments and suggestions and look forward to working with you on your legal needs for many years to come.
