Video-Sharing Web Sites and the DMCA Safe Harbor

Copyright infringement on popular video-sharing Web sites are anticipated to increase as the popularity of Web video continues to grow. Content owners have argued that host Web sites must take greater measures to counter infringement. However, Web site owners said the rules outlined by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) are the only ones they have to follow.

This article discusses the DMCA section on safe harbor which protects service providers from monetary claims for copyright infringement. It also addresses its impact on the Viacom v.
