SEC to Propose New Rules for Credit Rating Agencies

On April 22, 2008, SEC Chairman Christopher Cox, in a meeting with the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, indicated that he expects the SEC to propose additional rules “in the near future” to advance accountability, transparency and competition in the credit rating industry.

Employment, Labor and Benefits: Alert - May 2, 2008

On May 1, 2008, the House passed the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) by a vote of 414-1. A week earlier, the Senate had passed the Act by a 95-0 vote. This legislation, prohibiting health insurance and job discrimination based on one’s genetic makeup, now moves to President Bush, who has already said that he will sign it.

Holland & Knight Partner Receives Latino Business Leadership Award

SAN FRANCISCO – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Jennifer Hernandez, a partner in the firm's San Francisco office, received the 2006 Latino Business Leadership Award for significant achievements in corporate America on Sept. 27, 2006. The Latino Business Leadership Award is given to influential Latinos in the San Francisco Bay Area by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the San Francisco Business Times and Wells Fargo. Hernandez is one of 31 individuals recognized in one of the following areas: corporate, emerging leaders under 40, entrepreneurship, health, nonprofit/philanthropy, and public sector.  

Hernandez is a member of Holland & Knight's Government Section and co-chairs the firm's environmental team. She represents clients in the private, public, and non-profit sectors in land use and environmental project permitting, compliance, litigation and public advocacy work. She has taught land use and environmental law for the University of California and Stanford Law School, and frequently speaks for client and lawyer professional associations and continuing education seminars.
