Holland & Knight Partner Robert Highsmith Appointed to Judicial Nominating Commission by Governor Perdue

ATLANTA – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Robert S. Highsmith Jr., a partner in the firm's Atlanta office, has been appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to the Judicial Nominating Commission for the State of Georgia.
Under the Governor's Executive Order creating it, the Commission's role is to nominate duly qualified persons to fill vacancies in the courts arising during the Governor's term of office. The Commission consists of members that have demonstrable knowledge of the judicial system and experience in the needs and operation of Georgia courts.
“My choice of Robert Highsmith as an appointment to the Judicial Nominating Commission is reflective of the importance I place in this esteemed panel’s mission to nominate judicial candidates with integrity, principle and a commitment to public service to serve the state of Georgia with distinction,” commented Governor Perdue.
Highsmith practices legislative, administrative and regulatory law, government relations, and litigation. He serves as national Team Leader for the firm’s State Capitals Team, and leads the firm’s Georgia government relations practice. He represents clients before the Georgia General Assembly and before state and local government agencies. Highsmith also has extensive experience in public policy litigation, representing both governmental entities and private parties.
From November 2002 until November 2004, Highsmith served in the administration of Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, first as Transition Counsel, and then as Deputy Executive Counsel. As Governor Perdue’s lead legislative lawyer, Highsmith drafted and lobbied for the governor’s legislative package each year. He also advised the Governor on the full gamut of executive legal matters, including the state budget process, government procurement, transportation funding, and redistricting litigation.
