Damon Hart Elected President of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association

BOSTON – Damon Hart, a partner in Holland & Knight's Litigation Section, has been elected president of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association (MBLA), New England’s premier minority bar organization. The statewide election took place on April 8 during the MBLA annual meeting and elections at the Adams Courthouse. Hart has been active in MBLA, having served as president-elect for the 2007 term and treasurer in 2006.
"I am honored to serve the MBLA as its president," Hart said. "The MBLA has a rich history of providing unique opportunities for African-American attorneys to be their very best and develop their careers through continued legal education programs, networking opportunities and mentoring. I'm looking forward to the year ahead and working with a talented group of attorneys."
Hart practices from Holland & Knight's Boston office in the area of commercial litigation, with particular focus in technology, intellectual property, and labor and employment matters. He has experience in a variety of complex intellectual property and other business disputes in the federal and state courts. In addition to his litigation work, he also provides business advice to clients on contract, real estate and development matters. Hart counsels a number of non-profits in their unique business and organizational challenges. In particular, he has represented a number of churches and other religious organizations gaining significant experience in constitutional issues, intra-denominational disputes, non-profit administration and tax issues.
Hart also is serving as an elected member of the Boston Bar Association's (BBA) Council, the BBA's governing body, and he sits on the BBA's Executive Committee. Hart has been named by his colleagues as a "Massachusetts Rising Star" in the field of Business Litigation in 2006 and 2007, and listed among Boston's Ten Outstanding Leaders by the Boston Jaycees for outstanding professional and community leadership. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science in 1996 from The College of Holy Cross and earned his law degree in 1999 from Boston College Law School.
About the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association: With approximately 200 active members, MBLA has served the African-American legal community since its inception in 1973. Through trainings, continuing legal education and mentorship programs, the MBLA reaches out to 400 minority lawyers in Massachusetts and provides opportunities for career development and advancement. The MBLA is dedicated to raising the bar at large through strategic alliances with other majority bar organizations such as the BBA and Massachusetts Bar Association and various other Affinity Bar Organizations.
