SAN FRANCISCO – Jennifer Hernandez, a partner in the San Francisco office of national law firm Holland & Knight, has been named one of Hispanic Business magazine's Elite Women of 2008.
Since 2003, Hispanic Business magazine has recognized the notable achievements and historic advances made by Hispanic women throughout the country. Hernandez' work as an environmental attorney focusing on the cleanup and redevelopment of former industrial, military and agricultural sites earned her the award and a full-page feature in the April issue of this national publication.
The article details Hernandez' Pacific Refining Company project and refers to her as "a 'go-to' lawyer for environmental matters." Her valuable assistance helping pass the California Land Environmental Restoration and Reuse Act is recognized as "one of the most rewarding, yet grueling battles of Jennifer's legal career."
Hernandez, who has achieved national prominence in her work on brownfields, redevelopment and master planned community projects, co-chairs Holland & Knight’s national Environmental Team and leads the West Coast Land Use and Environmental Law Team. She divides her time between the firm's San Francisco and Los Angeles offices.
Hernandez has written two books and more than 30 articles on environmental and land use law. She has received several professional awards, including an American Planning Association Award for her book, A Practical Guide to the California Environmental Quality Act, the Greenlining Institute's Big Brain Award for developing a New Paradigm that Intersects Environmental and Inner-City Economic and Health Goals, and the Yerba Buena Alliance's Unsung Hero/Heroine Award for work on brownfields policies. Mayor Brown proclaimed Oct. 9, 2002 as Jennifer Hernandez Day in San Francisco for her work on sustainable land use and for being a "warrior on the brownfield."
