Construction: Alert - January 30, 2012

For almost 50 years, lessors have had the ability to limit their liability for liens that arose from improvements to the leasehold made by a lessee. However, in the most recent legislative session, the Florida Legislature enacted revisions to Florida Statute ยง 713.10 that provide a potential pitfall for lessors by inserting a provision that may allow a contractor to lien the lessor's interest even where there is a recorded document advising of the limitation of liens.

Holland & Knight Partner William F. Hamilton Spoke at the 2009 Florida College of Advanced Judicial Studies

TAMPA, Fla.William F. Hamilton, Holland & Knight partner in the firm's Tampa office, recently spoke on the topic entitled "ESI Cast Management for Judges" at the 2009 Florida College of Advanced Judicial Studies course in Fort Myers, Fla., on June 4.

The Florida College of Advanced Judicial Studies is a program supported by the Supreme County for the State of Florida which is a series of workshops presented to Florida judges. Hamilton participated as a faculty member and discussed management of e-discovery in complex litigation.

Hamilton is Board Certified in Business Litigation and Intellectual Property by The Florida Bar. His work includes complex business litigation in the areas of contract, software, and technology disputes, intellectual property (copyright, trademark, patent and trade secrets law), e-commerce, data security, telecommunications, trade regulation and unfair trade practices, and commercial real estate. He currently serves as co-chair of Holland & Knight's national E-Discovery practice and teaches Electronic Discovery and Digital Evidence as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida's Levin College of Law. He is also a featured speaker and writer on business litigation, electronic discovery and evidence.
