CHICAGO, IL – September 23, 2009 – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that James Mayer and Jonathan Furr, attorneys in the firm’s Chicago office, are editors of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law book "Green Building and Sustainable Development: The Practical Legal Guide,” which is an attorney’s guide to understanding their clients' green objectives and crafting legal solutions to create sustainable development and green building principles. In addition to Mr. Furr's and Mr. Mayer's roles as editors, nine Holland & Knight attorneys from the firm's Sustainable Development team contributed chapters to the Legal Guide.
The Legal Guide will help professionals in this emerging field identify critical legal issues and craft practical and effective solutions. It offers essential information on minimizing the potential cost penalty of business-as-usual practices and recognizing regulatory issues impacting sustainable development. It also presents ideas on how legal professionals can green their own practices, a sample green procurement policy, a table of state incentives, a table of state government initiatives, and a glossary of terms. It is published by the American Bar Association Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law and edited by Jonathan Furr, James Mayer, Nicole Kibert, and Shannon Sentman.
Mayer is a partner with Holland & Knight, a Director of the firm's Management Committee and the Deputy Section Leader of Marketing for the firm's National Real Estate Practice. He concentrates his practice in commercial real estate law, including all aspects of real estate acquisition, development, leasing, operation, management and disposition.
Furr is a senior counsel with Holland & Knight and practices in the firm's local government and land use section. Mr. Furr advises a number of private and public sector clients on green building, sustainable development, and other zoning and land use matters. He has worked on a variety of form-based zoning projects throughout the nation. Mr. Furr also represents public and private sector clients on energy efficiency matters, including energy performance contracting projects that guarantee significant reductions in energy consumption in existing buildings.
