Shenan Rae Atcitty - Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Shenan Atcitty, a partner in Holland & Knight's Indian Law Practice Group, was named a Top-Tier Lobbyist and featured in the July 21 issue of Legal Times. Atcitty was one of 11 lobbyists Legal Times selected based on nominations received from the community and results of the newspaper's reporting over the years.

Atcitty was named to the list as a result of her legal work and lobbying efforts on behalf of Native American tribes, including securing aid for suicide prevention and economic development programs for the Rosebud Sioux Tribe; and working to protect the Jicarilla Apache Nation's oil and gas reserves on its Reservation in northern New Mexico as well as developing the Jicarilla's drinking water and wastewater infrastructure. She also serves as lead attorney for several of the firm's clients, including the Mescalero Apache Tribe, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and the Intertribal Monitoring Association.

Atcitty, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who hails from Shiprock, N.M., serves as a leader in Holland & Knight's Native American legal and lobbying practice based in Washington, D.C. Her practice involves congressional and federal representation, as well as general legal counsel work for Indian tribes and tribal organizations.

Atcitty has more than 17 years of experience representing and working with Indian tribal governments in the areas of litigation, business and economic development, energy, federal governmental relations and congressional lobbying and appropriations issues. Atcitty also handles a variety of economic development, infrastructure, housing, land-into-trust, gaming, sovereignty, tax incentives, trust reform and general counsel legal work for her tribal clients.
