Holland & Knight Attorney Mary Ann Gilleece Elected Chairman of The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program

Washington, D.C. – February 18, 2010 – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Mary Ann Gilleece, a partner in the firm's Washington, D.C. office, has been elected Chairman of the Executive Board of the Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program.
As chairman, Gilleece is responsible for leading the efforts of the board, which is comprised of members including the Paralyzed Veterans of America, The American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans and the National Veterans Legal Services Program. Gilleece replaced Jeff Stonerock who served as chairman of the program since 2005.
The Consortium is a non-profit charitable organization that was created by Congress and began operations in 1992 to recruit and train attorneys in the field of veterans' law. The program provides free legal assistance to unrepresented appellants in the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Since its beginning, the Consortium has trained thousands of volunteer lawyers who, in turn, have represented thousands of veterans in support of their pursuit of compensation and other benefits for disabilities connected to their military service.
As a partner at Holland & Knight Gilleece provides advice to domestic and foreign corporations on a wide spectrum of issues related to legislative, government contract and business matters. She is also knowledgeable about the laws, regulations and internal government procedures concerning the government acquisition process.
She served as Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1972 and in 1977, she served six years as Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Armed Services. From April 1983 to August 1985, Gilleece served as the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (Acquisition Management). In this role she managed a senior level professional staff and served as the principal advisor to the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering in all matters concerning management and policy for the Department of Defense (DOD) acquisition and manufacturing processes. She also served on the Joint Contract Administration Coordinating Council. Gilleece directed the effort to make procurement system improvements embodied in Executive Order 12352 of March 17, 1982, on Federal Procurement Reforms.
Gilleece received her B.A. from the University of Connecticut, her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and her LL.M, Government Procurement Law from The George Washington University.
