A company that has several thousand customer records in its data base has just discovered there may be a breach of their internal security indicating that a good portion of those records have now been compromised. If not handled correctly, the actions the company takes next could lead to an array of problems, such as class action law suits and bad publicity that create significant financial exposure.
This seminar addresses the evermore pressing legal issues related to privacy and electronic customer data bases. Our program will focus on a step-by-step approach of what a company should do in the minutes, hours and days after discovering a security breach.
Moderated by Holland & Knight Partner Christopher Kelly, the program will use a hypothetical involving a breach of internal security and will cover the following:
- Federal and State notice requirements a company has to meet once a possible release of protected information is discovered – presented by Roz Allen
- Human Resource issues raised by such a breach – presented by Kenneth Jenero
- IP/trade secret implications – presented by Ieuan Mahony
- White collar crime implications, civil penalties, exposure to liability – presented by John Hogan and Brian Albritton
