Jim Laughlin concentrates his practice on intellectual property matters and related technology issues with a focus on litigation and counseling. Antitrust, trade regulation and competition form the remainder of his Intellectual Property interests. He is experienced in the representation of clients in a variety of industries including pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, chemical companies, computer hardware and software companies, electronic chip development and manufacturers, food technology companies, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, and medical device development and manufacturers.
Mr. Laughlin has successfully prosecuted and defended actions in federal district courts throughout the United States in matters involving patent infringement, patent validity, trade secret, unfair competition, and antitrust. He has successfully represented parties in patent interference proceedings, reissue and reexamination.
Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Laughlin began his practice with the legal division of the Cynamid Co. and later with Xerox. He returned to Washington, D.C., in 1977, forming a small patent boutique which grew and he now continues private practice with the Intellectual Property Group of Holland & Knight.
