La Fonte Nesbitt is a Real Estate Partner with experience in all types of real estate matters. His practice emphasizes urban and community development, affordable housing, public-private partnerships and privatization initiatives. He represents private developers, investors, lenders and underwriters, as well as housing authorities, housing finance agencies and other government and quasi-governmental agencies, in connection with the acquisition, development and financing of housing, retail developments, office buildings and mixed use projects.
Mr. Nesbitt is a Co-Chair of the firm's Military Installations Redevelopment Team. He has been involved with the Department of Defense's (DoD) Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI) since 1996, shortly after the legislation was enacted, serving as the firm's lead lawyer on teams working with the DoD and its financial and real estate consultants. Mr. Nesbitt has participated in structuring the military housing privatization program and its policies. Working on the side of the government and for private developers, bond insurers and underwriters, Mr. Nesbitt has been involved in closing military housing transactions involving more than 20,000 housing units and several billion dollars in total development costs. He also has experience with DoD's Enhanced Use Leasing (EUL) and Base Closure Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process and program
Mr. Nesbitt has extensive experience in affordable housing, including programs of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, tax-exempt bonds and low income housing tax credits.
Within the firm, Mr. Nesbitt serves as Executive Partner for our Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and Maryland offices.
