Adam M. Kingsley practices in the area of municipal law with an emphasis on litigation. He is an experienced trial attorney with expertise in constitutional law, land use and zoning, eminent domain, employment law, construction law, the Freedom of Information Act and historic preservation.
Mr. Kingsley is a recognized authority on zoning disputes involving religious properties. He spoke on this topic at the International Municipal Lawyers Association’s annual meeting where he presented a paper entitled “How Municipalities are Defending and Winning Free Exercise and RLUIPA Cases,” authored the RLUIPA chapter of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education's land use handbook, and successfully argued Vision Church v. Village of Long Grove, a leading RLUIPA case, before the 7th Circuit Court of Appeal He is a guest lecturer at the University of Illinois-Chicago’s Graduate School of Planning and Urban Policy, where he speaks on land use and zoning law.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Kingsley was senior counsel for the city of Chicago Department of Law where he counseled city officials and defended the city in complex litigation, including litigation involving the First Amendment, employment discrimination, airport development, municipal contracts, and land use and zoning.
