Alban Salaman is the Chair of Holland & Knight's Mid-Atlantic Region Private Wealth Services group. He practices in the areas of estate planning, estate administration and employee benefits. He has over 20 years' experience in designing sophisticated estate plans and saving taxes for wealthy families in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area and professional athletes nationwide. Mr. Salaman has substantial experience regarding tax planning, wills, trusts, advance medical directives, insurance planning, family business planning, family partnerships, charitable giving, pre-marital agreements, and retirement planning. He also administers large estates, supervises the preparation of federal estate tax returns, and represents clients with respect to federal estate tax audits.
Mr. Salaman has broad tax experience. He serves as counsel to several large corporations with respect to their profit sharing and 401(k) plans. Between 1977 and 1983, Mr. Salaman served with the Office of Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service. In that position, he drafted legal opinions regarding proposed revenue rulings, letter rulings, and litigation positions when novel or complex issues were involved. Mr. Salaman often represented his division in conferences with Treasury officials. He also was awarded the Chief Counsel Special Achievement Award in 1981.
Before joining Holland & Knight in 1993, Mr. Salaman was the trust and estates partner at the law firm of Melrod, Redman & Gartlan.
Mr. Salaman has taught estate and retirement planning courses for the Greater Washington Society of CPAs, the University of Virginia Continuing Education Division, and The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
