Debra Deardourff Faulk practices in the areas of intellectual property, contests and sweepstakes, media, technology and telecommunications. Ms. Faulk’s intellectual property practice includes both litigation matters and trademark and copyright registrations, related licensing and domain name registrations and disputes. She is widely experienced in federal and state trademark and copyright searching, monitoring, application prosecution, registration, maintenance, portfolio management and rights enforcement. Further, Ms. Faulk litigates all aspects of trademark and copyright disputes.
Ms. Faulk regularly advises clients on the administration of contests and sweepstakes, as well as the statutory requirements, including games of chance and contests of skill. She works closely with clients from the beginning to the end to ensure that every aspect of the marketing promotion achieves the client’s goals and fulfills the client’s obligations under applicable laws.
Ms. Faulk is experienced in various aspects of media law including access to public records, open meetings, pre-publication and pre-broadcast review, newsgathering advice, defamation, privacy claims and defends against subpoenas to reporters. Further, Ms. Faulk is specialized in the privacy and security aspects of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
While in graduate school, Ms. Faulk was a teaching assistant for Electronic Field Production, focusing on video production and video editing. In addition, Ms. Faulk concentrated her studies on the First Amendment and computer content regulation. She was a teaching assistant for Legal Research and Writing and Appellate Advocacy while attending law school. In addition, Ms. Faulk earned a book award in International Intellectual Property.
