Damon P. Hart practices in the area of commercial litigation, with particular focus on labor and employment matters. Mr. Hart has strong experience in a variety of complex business disputes in the federal and state courts. In addition, his employment practice involves representation of clients before federal, state and local administrative agencies, at arbitration and in state and federal court on matters arising out of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other federal, state and local anti-discrimination and employment statutes.
Mr. Hart has strong experience in a variety of complex intellectual property and other business disputes in the federal and state courts. In addition to his litigation work, he also provides business advice to clients on contract, real estate and development matters. Hart counsels a number of non-profits in their unique business and organizational challenges. In particular he has represented a number of churches and other religious organizations gaining significant experience in constitutional issues, intra-denominational disputes, non-profit administration and tax issues.
As evidence of his commitment to the legal and business community, in October 2008, Mr. Hart was given the "40 Under 40" award by the Boston Business Journal. The award recognizes men and women who are under 40 years old and have established themselves as leaders in their respective fields of Business. In May 2005, he was named as one of Boston’s Ten Outstanding Young Leaders by the Boston Jaycees for outstanding professional and community leadership. He joins elite company by winning this award, as former winners include John F. Kennedy, Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Justice Roderick Ireland, Thomas Flatley, Leonard Zakim, Bob Cousy and Carl Yastremski.
While Mr. Hart was co-chair of the Boston Bar Association’s New Lawyer Section, he developed Continuing Legal Education programs, networking events, pro bono projects and practice development programs for the Boston Bar Association’s largest section of almost 2,000 members who have been practicing for 10 years or less. For the Boston Lawyers Group, he worked with member organizations to recruit, retain and increase opportunities for attorneys of color.
Mr. Hart serves as outside counsel for Jubilee Christian Church, providing legal advice for its various social and economic ventures, including real estate and economic development, book stores, and an in-house Gospel record company. Mr. Hart also serves as a volunteer in Jubilee's men's, youth and children's ministries.
Mr. Hart worked for the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, while attending law school.
