Gael Mahony

Partner
Boston
t: 617-854-1412

Gael Mahony specializes in complex business litigation across industries. He successfully represented the real estate development affiliate of the Pritzker family's Hyatt chain in a high-profile dispute with noted restaurateur Anthony Athanas over a $1 billion Boston waterfront development project. In another case, his clients, former owners of The Atlantic Monthly magazine, won a verdict against prominent real estate and media tycoon Mortimer Zuckerman after a hotly contested four-month trial. In handling the appeal by Volvo Car Corporation from a $130 million class-action RICO judgment, Mr. Mahony was able to persuade the First Circuit to reverse the judgment and order entry of judgment for his client. Mr. Mahony's experience covers the broad range of complex business litigation including securities fraud, business torts, product liability, intellectual property, anti-trust and contract disputes.

He has been appointed by the Judicial Council of the First Circuit and by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to investigate cases of judicial misconduct in the federal and state judiciary. Mr. Mahony served as counsel to the judges of the District Court for the District of Massachusetts in litigation brought against them by the United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts challenging the adoption by the judges of a local rule concerning attorney subpoenas in criminal cases.
