George B. Howell III concentrates primarily in the areas of banking and finance and structured finance, including commercial lending transactions primarily for banks and other lending institutions, asset-based financing transactions, real estate and construction loans, as well as general real estate transactions. In addition, a significant portion of Mr. Howell's practice includes the representation of a number of both U.S. companies, and in-country clients in the United Arab Emirates.
In 1993, Mr. Howell was elected to serve as a trustee, secretary, and legal counsel, and currently serves as vice president and legal counsel, for the Saunders Foundation, a substantial charitable foundation established in 1956 to support non-profit organizations in the Tampa Bay area. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the Tampa Bay History Center since 1991, serving as chairman from 2000 to 2009, and he also serves on the board of the Tampa Bay History Center Foundation. Mr. Howell is currently serving as chair of the Tampa office's Local Diversity Committee.
Mr. Howell is a former director and president of the University Club of Tampa, the Tampa Historical Society, Tampa Yacht & Country Club (Commodore), the Travelers Aid Society, the University of Tampa Board of Counselors and the Exchange Club of Tampa. He is a former director of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation, the Gulf Ridge Council, Boy Scouts of America, United Cerebral Palsy of Tampa Bay and a former trustee of the University of Tampa board of trustees.
From 1976 to 1978, he served in the U.S. Merchant Marines while working for Tampa Electric Company with its ocean tug and barge operations in the U.S., Caribbean and Pacific.
While attending Mercer University, Mr. Howell was president of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
