James S. Groh advises clients on real property acquisitions, conveyances, finance, development, workouts, foreclosures and REO disposition.
Mr. Groh is experienced in the representation of developers, banks, insurance companies and other investors in connection with commercial real estate transactions. He handles acquisition, construction and permanent financing transactions on behalf of domestic and international lenders and borrowers, with an emphasis on syndicated loans. He also represents public and private companies in connection with the acquisition and sale of land, development and construction financing, relocation and expansion incentives, title insurance, leasing, and related issues. During the late 1980's and early 1990's, he represented the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) in its disposition by public auction of commercial real estate assets throughout the State of Florida.
Mr. Groh serves as co-chair of the firm's Real Estate Finance Team and leads the Real Estate Practice Group for the Jacksonville office. He previously chaired the firm's Miami Real Estate Practice Group and served as the national chair of Holland & Knight’s associate evaluation committee from 1997 to 2001. As an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law, he taught a course titled “Land Security and Finance.”
In the civic community, Mr. Groh currently serves as pro bono counsel to the St. Johns Cathedral District, a long term project encompassing more than 20 blocks in downtown Jacksonville. Mr. Groh also served as president of the board of directors of Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services, Inc., a nonprofit organization providing shelter and counseling services for homeless adolescents.
