John Guard practices in the area of commercial litigation.
A majority of Mr. Guard's practice has been representing and advising telecommunication, utility and technology based clients in a wide variety of business disputes. He has handled matters in both federal and state courts throughout Florida through trial. These matters have included contractual disputes, business torts, trademark infringement, trade secret protection, covenant not to compete enforcement, corporate governance, and environmental litigation. In addition, Mr. Guard also has had significant experience in bankruptcy matters, including with loan work-outs and asset purchases.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Guard clerked for Judge James S. Moody, Jr., United States District Court Judge for the Middle District of Florida.
While in law school, Mr. Guard was a Notes and Comment Editor for and a member of the Tulane Law Review. Upon graduation, he was awarded the George Dewey Nelson Memorial Award for the highest grade point average among common law students and the Dean’s Medal for the highest grade point average among third year students. He also was elected to the Order of the Coif.
